Ian Povey is the founder and principal advisor of CardsConsult.

Ian established CardsConsult in January 2000 following a four year career with PwC Consulting. After ten years abroad, Ian returned to Australia to join ANZ as Head of Emerging Payments. As an Executive Manager, the role worked across both the Issuing and Acquiring business lines and addressed product functionality including Chip cards, PIN @ POS and Mobile Banking. Ian was also an active campaigner for the Australian migration to Chip & PIN following his experience overseas.

Ian has worked in the cards and payments fields internationally for more than fifteen years, and has first hand experience and had accountability for a number of large scale programs. These include Chip & PIN migrations (UK, Ireland, Canada & Australia), National ID (Malaysia) and loyalty scheme development (Turkey, Australia & UK).

Prior to returning to Australia, Ian was SVP/Head of Product Development at MBNA Europe Bank (now Bank of America); successfully migrating the ten million card portfolio across to Chip & PIN. Prior to this, as Director of Cards Strategy EMEA at EDS Ltd, Ian provided strategic consulting to banks, government and transit operations in the UK, South Africa and continental Europe. Ian was also appointed as the Smart Cards Policy Advisor to the Office of the e-Envoy within the UK Government.

Ian has been published on several occasions and is a regular speaker in Australia and internationally. Achievements include:
